A bottle of fragrance is not bought, exactly — it is committed to. Below is our gentle rule of thumb for living with each size, assuming three to four sprays per wearing.
A pocket companion for travel, weekends, and curiosity. Six to eight weeks of daily wear.
The defining size — sized to live on your vanity. Four to six months of consistent wear.
For the devoted — your scent, settled. Eight to twelve months of daily wear.
Hand-numbered, limited release. A statement bottle for the collector.
Reading a composition.
Every perfume is built in three layers, like a piece of music. The opening is what announces you; the heart is what you become; the base is what is remembered after you've left the room.
Top
The first impression — bright, volatile, and brief. Citrus, green herbs, light spice. Lasts the first 15 minutes.
Heart
The character of the perfume — the personality. Florals, fruits, soft spice. Unfolds for one to four hours.
Base
The signature that lingers — the memory others carry. Wood, amber, musk, vanilla. Stays for the rest of the day.
The art of application.
- Apply to clean, hydrated skin — moisturizer extends the life of any fragrance considerably.
- Spray, do not rub. Crushing the perfume bruises the top notes and accelerates the dry-down.
- Choose two pulse points — wrist, neck, or behind the ear. More is rarely more.
- Re-apply discreetly in the late afternoon if you wish; the heart is what people remember.
- Store the bottle upright, away from light and heat. Perfume keeps for years if treated kindly.
